We were looking forward to our tour of a slot canyon in Antelope Canyon, and we were not disappointed! It began with a traditional Navajo ceremonial hoop dance. It was amazing to see the various animals represented in the way the hoops were arranged. Click HERE for a short video.

Our tour guide, Irene, had quite a few interesting stories to tell. Such as how the slot canyons were places of worship and needed to be treated with respect. Some elders were not happy with the number of tourists visiting these canyons. She also told of the 11 European tourists who drowned in a flash flood through this slot canyon. This canyon was over 100 feet deep and about 1/4 mile long but only a few feet wide in some places. And, this Navajo lady was an expert in photography! She helped everyone set up the correct settings for Apple I-Phones, Samsung Galaxy phones and digital cameras. Here's a few pictures you can click on for a larger view. Guess which ones were taken before she helped with settings. The pictures can't capture how stunning this canyon was!

Here we are taking a selfie by Glen Canyon Dam.

The next morning we stop by Horseshoe Bend which is just south of Page on our way to the Grand Canyon North Rim. It's a pretty impressive view! They say it is an easy hike, but we found the 1/2 mile of loose sand to be very tiring.

Another stop on the way to the North Rim was Marble Canyon. Click HERE to see how beautiful the drive was. It is the only crossing of the Colorado River for hundreds of miles between Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam. Before this bridge and the dams were built, the only crossing was at Lee's Ferry, which was very perilous. Today, Lee's Ferry is the starting point for river rafting adventures. While having breakfast in Marble Canyon Lodge, we came across one of the rafting pictures. Looks like fun!
